Lost without presence


If no-one is directly alongside Julie’s mother, she thinks she is entirely alone in the world. The large pink cushion with a tiny white person isolated in the centre represents her mother feeling ‘desolate’, ‘despairing’ and completely ‘at a loss’. This perceived abandonment was poignant and hard to bear for family, friends and staff whose companionship was given generously.
